AAJA-Hawaii
Latest Updates
May 2005 Latest Updates
- Basketball season
is under way and the excitement and competitiveness
are undeniable. Eleven media teams are giving it their all, diving for
the ball and not letting a point get away from them. Who will take home
the trophy this year? KITV was the winner last year. We're at Gym 1 at
UH every Sunday beginning at 6:30 p.m. Click here
to see weekly game
photos, the schedule, standings and more. Cheer on your favorite media
personalities in the print, broadcast and radio industry. Or want to
volunteer? We can always use someone willing to keep score or assist
during the
games. Contact Yushing Ting at yushing@midweek.com
for more information.
Scholarships
- Deadline was extended to May 10 for scholarship applications. The
board will now be reviewing those to see how to award the $2,000 it has
allocated for the scholarship. Winners will be honored at an upcoming
luncheon. We'll keep you posted on the details. Or you can contact Wes
Nakama at wnakama@honoluluadvertiser.com
for more information.
- The early registration
deadline for the Minnesota convention this
August has already past. Register by June 30 to save an extra $50. Pay
your dues to qualify for the member rate. Visit http://www.aaja.org/programs/convention/registration/
to see key
registration dates and for the convention schedule. Let us know if you
are planning to attend so you can meet up with other Hawaii chapter
members who are going.
- All work and no play
makes for a boring chapter. Wanna organize an
informal round of golf, a karaoke night or pau-hana event? Let us know
your ideas for a chapter social. Contact one of the officers
to get the ball
rolling. And please come out and join us for any activities we do have.
- Want to know which
employers across the nation are hiring? Check out http://www.aaja.org/about/jobs/
for updated listings. Or let us know if
there's a job opening in your newsroom and we can always post it on our
site.
- 2006 Hawaii Convention
planning is about to get under way. We're in need of
dozens of volunteers and committee chairs. Let us know if you
can help out in any way possible. Contact Craig Gima at cgima@starbulletin.com
for meeting dates and more information, and also check out the website
for convention information.
SUSHI
OR
SAKE? WE GOT BOTH
Make this a classy night out on the town. Your ticket gives you a
sampling of sushi from a variety of restaurants and sake all in one
location. Last year we honored writer Bill Kwon at The
Advertiser-sponsored fund-raiser. A silent auction also helped the
chapter raise money for student internships. If you want to help us
plan our summer event, contact Eugene Tanner at
etanner@honoluluadvertiser.com.
