AAJA Board meeting

 

Meeting Minutes

Sunday, December 12, 2004

 

Present:

Stephen Tsai, Jaymes Song, Joann Shin, Stephanie Lum, Shauna Goya, Wes Nakama, Craig Gima, Jill Kuramoto, Yu Shing Ting, Sandee Oshiro, and Eugene Tanner

 

I.                Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved.

 

II.              President

Stephen congratulated and thanked 2003-2004 Board members for all their hard work.

He also welcomed the new board members. 

 

III.      New Business

 

A.             Sending 2005 AAJA Hawaii officers to national convention in Minneapolis.

-Stephen mentioned sending 2005 AAJA-Hawaii officers (Shauna, Wes, Yu Shing, and Joann) to Minneapolis to attend the AAJA convention this summer to pitch 2006 AAJA national convention in Hawaii.

      

-Jaymes disagreed saying the chapter funds are not meant to cover these types of costs.  He added there are plenty of opportunities to win grants to cover convention costs.

 

-Craig agreed with Jaymes, saying every board member should already plan on making every national convention.

 

-Stephen suggested sending at least incoming President, Shauna Goya to Minneapolis.

 

-Issue tabled and will be discussed at January meeting.

                 

B.             Volunteers at New Year’s Ohana Festival: Sunday January 9, 2005

Shauna asked for volunteers to work at Japanese Cultural Center’s annual event.  Volunteers needed to work at booths, pass out flyers, etc.  She would pass along name of coordinator.

 

C.             Co-sponsor Honolulu Community Media Council Forum:                        Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Pacific Club, 11:30 am   

-Shauna asked if we should co-sponsor the event. 

-Board agreed to co-sponsor event.

-Panel discussion about role of Asian journalists in Hawaii

 

IV.       Next meeting: Sunday, January 16 at 10:00am, Honolulu Advertiser conference room
